Help getting started with inReq, the local-first macOS screen recorder.

Getting started

1. Allow Screen Recording

On first launch, click Allow Screen Recording. macOS shows its permission prompt. If you enable it from System Settings instead, inReq picks it up automatically — you may be asked to restart the app once so macOS makes the screen available.

2. Choose what to record

Pick a whole display or a specific window from the source list, then press Start Recording.

3. Microphone & camera

Toggle the mic and camera before recording, or use the floating control bar to mute and unmute the microphone live while recording. Recordings save to ~/Movies/inReq by default; change the folder in Settings.

Frequently asked

Where are my recordings saved?
In ~/Movies/inReq by default. Choose any folder under Settings → Recordings location.
The microphone button doesn't add audio to my recording.
Grant Microphone access when prompted at the start of a recording. Once allowed, the floating control bar can mute and unmute the mic live during recording.
I granted Screen Recording but see no sources.
macOS sometimes needs the app to restart once after the first grant. inReq shows a “Restart inReq” button — click it and your displays and windows appear.
Does inReq upload my recordings or data anywhere?
No. Everything is processed and stored locally on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 12.3 (Monterey) and later.
